Public health indicatorsThe Directorate of Health publishes annually health indicators for the whole country as well as broken down by public health jurisdictions. This allows each jurisdiction to compare their status to the rest of the country, identify strengths and weaknesses that can be used to set a course for better public health and well-being.

Examples of health indicators, where East Iceland differs from national average.  

  • Relatively fewer children sleep to little 

  • Hazardous alcohol consumption of adults is lowest 

  • Participation in screening for cervical and breast cancer is highest 

  • Highest percentage of people that regard their mental health poor 

  • Women use of antidepressants above national average 

  • Participation in 12-month vaccinations is lowest
